Rotherham based ASD Lighting plc. design and manufacture an extensive range of high quality luminaires to meet the exacting demands of facility managers, specifiers, contractors, designers & architects and end users.
Following a decision to further extend their product range, an area of their injection moulding shop was designated for this project, this to accommodate a 1300 tonne Injection Moulding Machine, 3-Axis robot and parts conveyor. The area in question measured just 20 metres long, 5.3 metres wide and 5.4 metres high, both width and height making a conventional solution impractical.
The answer came in the form of a Negri Bossi Vector series machine, fitted with an automatic tie bar removal to aid with tool changes, and a Sytrama S20 three axis robot. As well as being telescopic, the robot was designed to run longitudinally, depositing component at the rear of the clamping unit. Specialist guarding and a conveyor mounted at ninety degrees to the machine (located under the clamping cylinder), further helped to minimise the ‘footprint’ of the cell.
Sytrama, which is a member of the Negri Bossi group of companies, specialise in bespoke ‘long axis’ solutions, and supply such items to other robot OEM’s. As such, delivery for the 8000mm stroke unit was not greatly extended. Sytrama products are also backed by a fully trained UK service team.

The production cell has exceeded our expectations, and what looked to be virtually unachievable given the allocated space, has resulted in the right solution for us without any compromise”
