Negri Bossi North America has recently commissioned two Bi-Power injection molding machines at Macro Plastics (Shelbyville, KY). The 2000-tonne (2200 US tons) and 3500-tonne (3850 US tons) Bi-Power injection molding machines are paired with two Negri Bossi Sytrama 301G integrated Cartesian servo robots to ensure a seamless turnkey molding solution. The machines have been installed in order to handle increased demand for bulk materials handling products.
The two machine cells are the first to be installed at the Kentucky facility and represent a significant investment for Macro Plastics. According to Jeff Mitchell, Macro Plastics Vice President of Operations, “We selected Negri Bossi for this project because of our six-year satisfactory experience with their machines and robots at our Fairfield, California plant, and in particular because of the ease with which the equipment can be configured to meet our particular molding requirements. We know that we can always count on Negri Bossi, their support staff has always been very helpful and quick to address our issues.”
The Bi-Power is highly modular two-platen clamp, hybrid power injection molding machine available in models from 1000- to 7000-tonne (1100 to 7700 US ton) with injection capacities (oz. PS) ranging from 104.4 to 2641.5 (x1 injection unit 1000- to 7000-tonne models) and also 4134.1 to 5282.9 (x2 injection units on 7000-tonne model) across the line. Machines are extremely compact featuring a robust twin cylinder injection unit, yet feature generous tie bar spacing and long ejector strokes. The moving platen rides on precision slideways and features a “hydroblock” tie bar locking system for excellent reliability and faster dry cycle times. The electric screw drive ensures efficiency and energy savings, allowing overlapping movements resulting in faster cycle times.
Tony Firth, President of Negri Bossi North America is excited to continue the partnership with Macro Plastics as they expand their injection molding capabilities in the Shelbyville plant. According to Mr. Firth, “The Bi-Power line is a proven product, producing excellent results over the long term. We stand behind everything we offer, and partner with our customers to ensure that we provide full support services to help them succeed. We appreciate the opportunity to continue our support of Macro Plastics as they expand molding operations to Kentucky.”
Installation of the new Bi-Power presses and Sytrama robots was completed in March 2016.
